In the following samples, you will hear a variety of levels from singers in the making. These are real life students who walk through our doors everyday. Some who have stuck with it will sound quite professional, but we also included rather unfinished samples from average, everyday people in our community.
Some of you may just want to learn to sing a little better because you love to sing.
You can benefit with just a few lessons, as the following excerpts will prove...
Edgard, age 14, is interested in Broadway Musicals. In the first clip, you will hear the vocal challenges he had to overcome rather quickly to audition for his high school musical. Even though he isn't sounding too good, you will hear the teacher's encouraging comments in the background...
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: After only SIX half-hour lessons
He practiced hard, did the audition, and got the part.
Notice how his pitch, range and power all improved in just 6 short lessons!.
Caleb is 25 years old and though raised in a musical family, he never pursued developing his voice. Now he feels he needs this avenue of self expression in his life.
Clip 1: In the Early Stages
Clip 2: One week later
He is already developing that desirable rumble in his low range
that aids in projecting these often lost notes in a song.
Clip 3: Five months later
This baritone is already producing a sound that is quite pleasing.
Jessica, a young working woman in her 20's, had a goal to try out for American Idol. With no musical training in her background, she had the challenge of singing off pitch and not enough power.
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: One year later
The improvement in pitch and power is coming along nicely.
When Wendy started singing lessons, her voice was pretty but very small with 2 register breaks that gave her some trouble. Pardon the the first recording...back in 2000 I was still using cassette tapes to record lessons (but you'll still get the idea).
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: Four years later
Clip 3: After three more years
She sang this at a live performance even though she was sick...
oh, if only we could all sound this good even when we're well!
Tanya is an example of a woman who wanted to learn how to sing so bad, that despite quitting 4 or 5 times when life threw her some blows, she kept returning after two, sometimes three years off from regular lessons. Her extremely low confidence level has also been a factor in her slow progress, but over the years you will hear her gradual improvement to where she is now...an everyday person who enjoys her own singing so much more.
Clip 1: Tanya in 2005
Clip 2: Tanya in 2007
Clip 3: Tanya in 2008 She enjoys singing a favorite song from
Eva Cassidy's version of "Imagine" by the Beattles
A different Jessica, age 15, started with this small, pretty voice that you can hardly hear over the background music even though the mic was turned up as high as we could go without getting feedback.
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: Three years later
She truly has the voice of an angel. Before she left the Bay Area to attend college
she produced this CD as a surprise for her parents, recorded at our school with no extra costs .
Vanessa was a stay at home mom who had no aspirations toward professional singing. She just wanted to improve her voice for her own self-fulfillment. She came in singing in what we call in the industry an aspirate, female falsetto.
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: Only one week later
We focused on getting her out of the falsetto mode by "brightening"
the voice and teaching her not to put the air before the tone.
Not a finished voice by any means, but for one week you can hear the improvement.
Unfortunately, she moved back east before we could continue further training.
Joe is 14 years old and interested in singing rock music. He came to us with limited range, no power, and pitch problems.
Clip 1: In the Beginning
Clip 2: After only THREE half-hour lessons
Yes, that's right. He is already showing a marked increase in power
along with more high notes...pitch is improved as well.
Then there are those who were raised taking singing lessons from the time they were 10 and on through their teen years. Is it Alison Krauss? Is it Eva Cassidy? No; it's someone even better than them....Kathy's daughter. Enjoy as she sings two of our favorites.
