Jacqueline Hairston
Saxophone & Clarinet Instructor

Jacqueline brings to Better World School of Music a love for the Saxophone and Clarinet. Her love with the Saxophone began when she took her first lessons at 10 years of age. She has been playing now for 14 years.

Jacqueline is in the final home stretch of getting her teaching credential at Cal State. She plans to take her love of the Saxophone & Clarinet to teach at the local middle schools or high schools; as well as possibly the inner city.

Her experience includes playing for the past 5 years the clarinet in the Symphonic Band for Cal State as well as the Baritone Sax in the Jazz Workshop at Cal State. She has been playing for the Star Struck Theatre in Fremont for the past 4 years. Jacqueline has been teaching private students for the past 3 years.

Because each student it unique she will customize the lesson to fit the child, teaching them music that they find exciting. In Jacqueline’s experience she knows that it isn’t wise for children under 8 to take saxophone or clarinet classes because their fingers have a hard time reaching.

Melissa Hoefer
Flute Instructor

Melissa Hoefer is a freelance musician in the San Fransisco Bay Area. In addition to playing principle flute in the California State University East Bay Symphonic Orchestra, she also performs with the East Bay Symphonic Band under the direction of Beverly Johnson.  Melissa is also the piccoloist for the Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra under the direction of John Pew.  Ms. Hoefer is also an instructor and counselor for the La Honda Music Camp and has taught there for the past three years.  She has also played in various musicals and chamber groups throughout Northern California.

Born and raised in Ukiah, CA, Ms. Hoefer's musical interest was inspired by her first band director, Darrin Michaels and was deeply encouraged by her high school director, John Mattern.  She has studied privately with Audrey Kircher, Sharon Watts, and Michelle Caimotto.

Ms. Hoefer graduated from California State University, Easy Bay (formerly Hayward) in 2005 with a Bachelors of Arts in flute performance. She currently lives in the San Fransisco Bay Area and teaches private lessons on flute and piccolo at Better World School of Music.
